DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENT
A diagnosis of ADHD needs to be made by a mental health professional with experience in treating the condition. Treatment is also with a mental health practitioner with experience in treating ADHD. It could include: making lifestyle changes and developing systems to improve time management and ability to complete tasks; addressing any drug or alcohol addiction; education to help direct attention in useful rather than random ways; and help obtaining support from friends or family. Medication to help with learning and practising new skills, concentration, impulsivity and calmness may be prescribed to support other changes to lifestyle and behaviour. healthnavigator.org. nz
