WHERE TO GET HELP
Cerebral palsy is the result of a combination of events either before, during or after birth that can lead to an injury in a baby’s developing brain.
Currently in New Zealand and Australia, treatments offered work within the condition and are focused on early intervention with family support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech language therapy and other special education services that can impact positively life quality, learning and development.
Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy is considered appropriate for carefully selected children with CP. It is not available in New Zealand. Parents considering SDR for their child should talk to their paediatrician. cerebralpalsy.org.nz
