“on the tools” – not that his team are short on experience. Geoff and Sam have been with Sarich Motors for ten years, while his newest recruit, Jake, has been there three.
Scott sees staying on top of health and safety requirements as another part of keeping his team happy, and has invested in equipment, such as lifting gear, that makes the job easier and reduces the risk of injury and fatigue.
He also takes “the boys” on fishing trips, and they’ve been known to turn his backyard into a bowling green. With a happy, switched-on crew behind him, Scott is even able to shoot the odd round golf during the week.
“Last time I hit an 86, so I might have been better off staying at work!” he says. “I’m lucky to get away during the week, because I dedicate most of the weekend to my kids’ sports!”
With a sustainable business plan in place, the company should be in good shape when the next generation in the Sarich family is ready to take the reins – and Scott can swap roles to dedicate more time to his own pursuits.
