Kiwi cars at Adelaide festival
A number of classic New Zealand racing cars will feature at the upcoming Adelaide Motorsport Festival to be held October 17 and 18. The festival encompasses a resurrection of the Classic Adelaide Rally, and also a Grand Prix Revival meeting much like Goodwood.
Among the cars will be the exGerhard Berger Ferrari 412T1 which placed second in Adelaide in 1994, and the ex-Ivan Capelli Leyton House March from 1989. They will be making the trip over the Tasman to run on a section of the Adelaide Parklands Circuit.
Joining them will be an NZ-owned Group C BMW 635CSi which touring car great Jim Richards will be driving among a field of 14 historic Group A and C cars as just one of the 20 support categories to the field of seven Adelaide Era F1 cars that will be on track. Another three Adelaide Era F1s are expected to attend as display only.
Visitors can expect to see nearly 200 Classic Adelaide Rally cars on site, plus the 240 cars competing on the race track over the three-day long Goodwood style extravaganza, and the organisers say they won’t be disappointed with the star cars on offer.
Joining the New Zealanders as overseas entrants will be two ex-Ayrton Senna F1 cars from Switzerland, and a Mk 1 Escort driven at the event by formerWorld Sportscar Champion and twice Le Mans class 2 winner Ray Bellm, plus a whole heap more. More info: www. adelaidemotorsportfestival.com.au
