CoolDrive expands New Zealand operations

-

CoolDrive Auto Parts is expanding its operations in New Zealand with the opening of a new branch in Hamilton.

This new branch is based in Te Rapa and also concurrently serves as the new Distribution Centre for all of New Zealand.

Operations will be overseen by CoolDrive New Zealand’s General Manager, Aaron Carr, who has relocated from Auckland to Hamilton.

“The opening of this new branch is a logical decision based around strong customer support and demand in the region, which had previously been serviced by two remote representatives,” Aaron Carr said.

“It’s incredibly exciting to be increasing CoolDrive’s presence and bringing such leading brands to the area. The location is a great distribution hub for the central North Island and we have a strong following that required service and supply. Our customers asked, we listened and have responded accordingly.”

Supporting Aaron Carr at Hamilton is a team of eight including Branch Manager Brent Harris, who has relocated from CoolDrive Mt Wellington’s operations, with long-term South Auckland sales representative Sam Wilburn appointed the new Branch Manager at Mt Wellington.

It has been five years since CoolDrive established official operations in New Zealand, and during that time it has been wholly embraced by the local automotive market.

CoolDrive initially traded through its Auckland Mt Wellington and Albany branches, before expanding into Christchurch to service the South Island.

“Our product offering has grown significantly over this time, as well as our team and this development into a distribution centre will enable us to offer even more quality products and brands,” added Peter Connelly, CoolDrive New Zealand’s National Sales Manager.

“It is very exciting to be a part of an Australasian business with great vision and structure. Possibly the best part of CoolDrive is that it is family owned and operated, by a family with a passion for the industry and motor sport.”

As part of this recent operations expansion,

CoolDrive has also launched a new van delivery service across its New Zealand branch network.

CoolDrive Auto Parts says they are Australasia’s preferred automotive parts distributor with a comprehensive parts range consisting of Air Conditioning, Brakes, Electrical Accessories and Lighting, Engine Cooling, Engine Management, Filtration & Lubricants, Rotating Electrical, Tools & Equipment, and Workshop Consumables featuring world-class brands, knowledge and service to the New Zealand automotive trade.

CoolDrive’s new Hamilton branch is located at 3 Tasman Road, Te Rapa. Phone number 0800 327 868.

Total Oil New Zealand recommends Total Coolelf and Glacelf with the advantages this coolant range offers,it weighs up heavily against traditional coolants. The application of these coolants means our customers will save money (up to five times the longevity!) and downtime, thanks to its outstanding components.

The primary function of a coolant is to act as an agent of heat transfer. It is circulated through the engine where it absorbs excess heat energy, to the radiator where that heat is dissipated before repeating the process. Another important function of the product is to act as an anti-freeze agent and Total Coolelf and Glacelf.

It consists of three components:

• Water.

• Mono ethylene glycol (or similar).

• An inhibitor.

The third main component of a coolant is the inhibitor. Generally constituting 3 - 8 percent of the coolant, the inhibitor is simply there to protect the cooling system from corrosion and degradation. Inhibitors can be classified as either traditional or the organic variant, OAT (Organic Acid Technology).

An organic coolant can perform for up to five times longer than a traditional coolant. It has greater capacity for heat transfer, will extend the life of water pumps and has an improved degree of compatibility with elastomers, plastics and seals found in modern cooling systems. Using an organic inhibitor offers better oxidation stability, reduces scaling and depositing and provides superior protection.

The handling and disposal of coolant has long been an issue in automotive and industrial trades. While ethylene glycol will break down naturally within a few weeks in a natural environment, up until that point it is considered toxic to plants and animals. An estimated 25 - 50 percent of all coolant is disposed of improperly, at risk to both humans and the environment.

An organic inhibitor needs to be changed less often, greatly reducing the need for handling and disposal. Due to the superior protective nature of organic inhibitors in relation to metal, used organic coolant contains far lower levels of heavy metals, and is therefore much easier to recycle and repurpose.

Most OEMs are now recommending organic instead of traditional coolants be used in their equipment. Simultaneously, global environmental regulation shows organic inhibitor technology is the future.
