Workshop for cooking dads

-

Every parent needs some ‘one pot wonders’ they can pull out of their hats when they need to get a meal on the table quick.

KND Hawke’s Bay (Kids Need Dads) knows that dads are now more involved in parenting and so is offering a free no fuss workshop, designed to get a meal on the table in a flash and on time.

KND manager Shayne Jeffares says often with both parents working and less time available, families are sometimes opting for expensive takeaways or less nutritious fast foods. Being able to get together around the table for a meal can often be the only time a family can connect and share in their day, Shayne says. “This is a valuable time for parents to be able to relax, unwind and catch up with their children’s day.”

With an abundance of food programmes such as MasterChef and Jamie’s 15 Minute Meals now on TV, research shows that two in three men revealed they cook more than their father did, spending 11 hours and 30 minutes in the kitchen each week.

“If dad is home first, or it’s his turn to cook, we can give some ideas how to get a meal out in no time, clean up and sit down and be proud of what he has cooked for his family,” Shayne says.

■ KND meal workshop, Tuesday, November 13, 6pm-8pm, Napier Old Boys Marist Rugby Club, Park Island, Napier. Koha to cover the ingredients, booking essential. For more information head to KNDHawkesbay facebook page, or email: hawkesbay@knd.org.nz
