Donor funds sea education event

Napier Courier - - News -

Thanks to the donation from an avid fisherman and keen boatie, LegaSea Hawke’s Bay was able to bring Hiwi the Kiwi back to Hawke’s Bay this month.

Mark de Lacy aka The Minstrel and Hiwi the Kiwi are already well known to a generation of Kiwi school children, with their road show having toured extensively, entertaining and inspiring tens of thousands of children over the past 10 years.

“Furthering the education of our young ones in regard to our fishery and marine life was something our donor was passionate about and we at LegaSea Hawke’s Bay are tremendously proud to carry this on in his honour,” Mark says.

Through this support the Hiwi the Kiwi Goes Fishing project visited 10 Hawke’s Bay schools from Wairoa through to Waipukurau, educating and inspiring children on how to best enjoy, manage, protect and preserve the marine environment.
