Napier Courier - - News -

Havelock North will come alive on Saturday, November 24 with this year’s Village Street Carnival promising fun, food, shopping and entertainment for all.

Havelock North Business Association President Jane Mackersey says once again a huge amount of effort and support from members and retailers has gone into planning the event which gets bigger and better, year on year.

“With only four weeks until Christmas, this is a fabulous time to enjoy an ultimate family day out in Havelock North, where everyone in our village community comes together.

“Our Village Street Carnival is a widely anticipated annual event, which is now attracting more than 10,000 people from across Hawke’s Bay and we’re making sure there’s something for everyone to enjoy,” Jane says.

Event manager Alice McKinley says a special highlight this year will be the inaugural Havelock North New World Trolley Grand Competition.

“All you need to do is turn up on the day and decorate a supermarket trolley which will then be paraded around the Village. There are plenty of prizes to be won.”

The Puppy Parade at 11am will include a grand entrance by Dogs on Bikes to help raise funds and awareness for SPCA Hastings and Napier.

Local Brazilian band Bay Batucada will start the day off at 10am. There will be plenty of free children’s entertainment including crowd favourite Basketball Jones and Fairy Rose Bud, face painting and bouncy castles.

Porters Hotel is hosting members from local group Boom Funk Variety which performs a show and an hour’s dance class to fun and friendly music.

The dedicated Eat Street is back and will also include special designated “chill out” zones for adults with an extended alcohol license outside of DIVA and Wright and Co.

Local art will be on display along with mechanical birds and a number of characters dressed up adding to the carnival atmosphere.

Havelock North High School students will be cheerleading and dance, along with local musicians Tamsyn Miller and Men in Black and a DJ will be outside Resort.
