A future for Napier
Over the next few weeks Napier City Council is gathering feedback from people, organisations and community groups to find out what they think of themes that will shape planning the city’s future.
Your Home, Your Future is the first stage of a detailed process that is part of the review of the existing Napier District Plan.
“This type of strategic thinking isn’t just about planning for housing, deciding when and where a road should be built, or setting some limits so the neighbours don’t get too noisy. We also need to think about the sort of places people like to relax and enjoy. We have a vision of Napier’s future, but we need the community to tell us if we’re headed in the right direction,” says manager city development, Paulina Wilhelm. NCC is working on six key outcomes: suburban growth in the hills, a premier regional park, city living supporting a vibrant CBD, leveraging heritage, great urban areas, and a regional approach to industry.
Gathering feedback at this early stage allows time for potential options to be explored and catered for, she says.
The Napier District Plan manages how and where development can occur and is reviewed once every 10 to 15 years.

The council is keen to hear from as many people as possible now.
“This is a unique opportunity for the community to have input into the further development of a plan which has the potential to make Napier more liveable, vibrant, and sustainable for everyone.”
