Alanah says it’s hard to say what makes a game popular.
“A good looking game is always nice. Personally, I’m a fan of worker-placement games like Euphoria and Viticulture.”
The event is expected to attract more than 100 people this year, usually in the 20-30 year age bracket, Alanah says.
“But we have a good chunk of members above and below, and this year we are aiming to build on the family-friendly aspect. A lot of our members are parents, and like to teach and play games with their children as an alternative to using devices.”
More than 200 games will be offered for players to have a go, ranging from classics like Carcassone and Settlers of Catan, to family-friendly games like Ice Cool and Sushi Go and newer, more heavyweight games like Anachrony and Trickerion.
“We will have local games store Jambo Hobbies there as well, with games for sale and also teaching Magic: The Gathering. We will have some short ‘one-shot’ Dungeons and Dragons campaigns aimed to help people enter the RPG (role playing games) universe, as well as a Learn to Play section where we teach some easy to learn, but fun to play games to anyone who’s interested.”
