A new degree in vet nursing
From February 2020 EIT’s Centre for Veterinary Nursing will offer a new three-year degree from the Hawke’s Bay campus in Taradale.
Gwenda Kevern, Head of School of the Centre for Veterinary Nursing says the degree complements the level 5 certificate and level 6 diploma in veterinary nursing being taught.
Students will be able to study full or part-time. Subjects range from advanced medical nursing, anaesthesia and surgery, applied animal welfare, behaviour and training to wildlife, conservation, emergency care and animal rehabilitation. With the school holidays looming, it could be a good idea to plan an extra long day or two of gaming for your children. But we’re not talking screen time here — it’s time to bring out the boards.
If getting your geek on is your thing, head down to Taradale Intermediate at the end of the month for the Hawke’s Bay Geeks Guild’s third Hawke’s Bay Con (convention), where board gaming enthusiasts can indulge their love of gaming the old-fashioned way.
“The nearest con is Board in Palmy, and they only run biannually and we hate to miss out on the opportunity to introduce people to boardgaming, and to play ourselves,” says event volunteer coordinator Alanah Schupbach.
Alanah says the Hawke’s Bay Geeks Guild’s weekly Monday games group is still as popular as ever.
“We usually have one or two new people joining us each week, and we are proud to say our numbers are steadily growing. Last year we even formed the guild as a non-profit society to help foster the board game community and to help us when we organise events like this.”
For many of us, board games evoke memories of Snakes and Ladders, Monopoly and perhaps Cleudo. Things have changed — big time.
“There have been a few big hitters when it comes to new games this year. Wingspan is a
