SHE SHED SAFARI

-

If you would like to go on safari, but can’t get to Africa, how about a self-guided safari right here in Hawke’s Bay?

The She Shed Safari not only takes in a variety of mainly coastal venues from Clive to Cape Kidnappers, but also enables you to interact with a collection of exotic creatures — an enterprising group of local women artists and artisans. This group has created original artworks and crafts from small, easily transportable items to large pots, sculptures and paintings inspired by nature, beachcombing and a passion for colour. And all in a very good cause.

Motivated by a recent initiative in Gisborne, the Lions Club of Napier Host is organising a similar event on Sunday, April 5, from 10am to 4pm, with proceeds going to Napier Women’s Refuge. For only $10, you can buy a special wristband which will enable you to visit 14 different ‘she sheds’ along the way, to chat to the owners, to view their artwork and perhaps buy a memorable keepsake.

Car sharing is recommended, as is stopping off for lunch at one of several eateries en route, including Zeppelin Cafe´ in Clive, Haumoana Coffee, Brown Dog Espresso in Clifton, Clearview Winery in Te Awanga and Hygge Cafe´ in Clifton.

So get a group of friends together and go on this safari with a difference.

A limited number of tickets are now available from Tennyson Street Gallery, Napier; Westerman’s Cafe´ , Hastings; Maina Cafe´ , Havelock North; Zeppelin Cafe´ , Clive and Cape View Four Square, Haumoana.

■ The Lions Club of Napier Host is welcoming new members so if you would like to get involved with their various projects supporting individuals and community organisations in the area, as well as enjoying a very varied social life, please visit their Facebook page or phone Judie on 02102619835 or Sherryl on 02102366186.
