Small Hall Sessions bringing live music

Performers take the stage in halls

-

Jamie Macphail has been promoting live music in Hawke's Bay for the past eight years and his latest brainchild, Small Hall Sessions, will bring New Zealand artists to perform at community halls across Hawke's Bay.

Jamie says community halls are “amazing little buildings” which have had an important place in small communities throughout their history, but very few have had live music in recent times.

“This is something different, where people have a reason to be gathering with neighbours that they might not otherwise be seeing often.”

He hopes the local communities will also get involved in events at their halls with local schools or musicians performing, before shows and holding charity meals.

Community members who want to get involved can contact Macphail at info@smallhall sessions.co.nz.

A pilot of three five-night tours is about to launch, and based on how they go Macphail hopes to bring 20 artists a year to Hawke's Bay for the Small Hall Sessions.

Delaney Davidson and Barry Saunders will be the first to perform at community halls around the Bay.

Both artists have won many awards for their music across the years, with Delaney being most recently announced as a finalist in the 2021 Aotearoa Music awards Country music song category for his song Sleep recorded by Tami Neilson.

They tour Hawke's Bay from May 26 as the inaugural artists for the newly launched Small Hall Sessions, with each show limited to only 100 tickets.

The tour begins on Wednesday, May 26 in the beautiful Christ's Church in Pukehou, one of the oldest wooden churches in New Zealand, having been built in 1859.
