Entries open for Triple Peaks
Competitors tested over scenic Hawke’s Bay terrain
Entries for the 2023 MCL Construction Triple Peaks event are open — giving competitors a chance to test themselves against some of the most beautiful terrain in Hawke’s Bay.
This prestigious annual event will once again send 600+ adventurous souls up and over the now traditional three peaks of the Hawke’s Bay, Mt Erin, Mt Kahuranaki and Te Mata Peak.
There are options a plenty for those who want to grab a great vantage point of the stunning Hawke’s Bay scenery, with the ability to participate by bike or on foot, over one, two or all three peaks. Alternatively buddy up and compete as a threeperson team. The event went ahead in a streamlined version under the Covid restrictions of 2022, but codirector Steve Nicholls says they are planning to make the 2023 event bigger and better.
“We really ran a no frills version of the event last year, but for 2023, we want to have all the bells and whistles we normally have, including making the finish-line and the aid stations a real party atmosphere. It’s also great to have the same family of local businesses supporting the event, especially our title sponsors MCL Construction who are amazing.”
The MCL Construction Triple Peaks wouldn’t be in its 34th year without having something special, and that something is the course, set up by co-director Rick “Ricko” Mills.
While it’s tough, with 55km and three mountains to climb, Mills notes that anyone can achieve it.
“While we know that the course is challenging, it’s also achievable for anyone that prepares properly for it, and with options to complete the one, two or three peak events, everyone can be part of the day,” Mills said. ■ Competitors who enter before the endof August go in the draw to win a free 12-week training programme by Peak Fitness Centre.
