Napier Civic Choir performing with two renowned soloists
Anannual event in London, the LastNight of the Proms isnow morethan just the final concert of the biggest orchestral music festival in the world. Nowit is a tradition that has spread internationally, with popular concerts following the sameformula regularly staged throughout the English-speaking world.
Napier Civic Choir is excited to bring this tradition to Hawke’s Bay in 2022.
Conducted by Jose Aparicio, the concert featuressome of the most beloved music from the choral and operatic repertoire.
Twotalented young soloists will join the fun.
Flaxmere-born soprano Katherine Winitana is a Project Prima Volta graduate with an honours degree in classical voice from Waikato University.
Winitana attended theNewZealand Opera School for three years.
Recently, she reached the Lexus semifinals and also performed the role of Annina in Wellington Opera’s production of La Traviata.
She has just finished her two years in theDameMalvina Major Foundation StudioArtist Programme withNew Zealand Opera.
Bass-baritone Samuel McKeever completed his bachelor’s degree inmusic with first class honours atTeKo¯kı¯ New Zealand School of Music in 2021, under the tutelage ofWade Kernot and Margaret Medlyn.
Originally from Hastings, he is a graduate of Project Prima Volta, and an alumnus of theNewZealand Opera School. His recent stage history includes roleswith Festival Opera andWellington Opera as well asNZSMand he had the privilege of performing Gareth Farr’s Terra Incognita with the WellingtonChamber Orchestra on the occasion of their 50th anniversary concert.
With a full orchestra, flags, balloons and all the exuberance of a party, this concert will be adelight for families to attend. And be prepared to sing along!
