Passionate journey of Spanish music throughout the world
Part of Napier Civic Choir’s Proms celebration weekend, Viva Espan˜a is a full orchestra concert at Waiapu Cathedral at 7.30pm on September 3 featuring Hawke’s Bay Orchestra and invited players.
The 50-piece orchestra with wind and percussion will perform a colourful evening of Spanish music by Spanish and nonSpanish composers DeFalla, Ravel, Sarasate& Rimsky-Korsakov. Highly virtuosic at moments, delicate, passionate, this programme will take the audience on a varied journey of Spanish music around the world.
Ahighlight of the concert will be solo violinist Amalia Hall playing pieces by Pablo de Sarasate – Concert Fantasy on Bizet’s
Carmen and Zigeunerweisen. Noted by The Strad for her “blazing insight and dazzling virtuosity”, NewZealander Amalia Hall celebrates a diverse career as a soloist, as concertmaster of Orchestra Wellington and violinist of NZTrio.
Her career extends internationally, havingwonthe first prize at five international competitions, plus numerous laureate prizes.
Since her debut with the Auckland Philharmonia at age 9, Amalia hasmade numerous solo appearances nationally and internationally.
She has performed as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician in Europe, United Kingdom, North and South America, Asia, South Africa and Australia, and recorded for BIS, Bridge, Rattle and Atoll Records.
