Part of Napier Civic Choir’s Proms celebratio­n weekend, Viva Espan˜a is a full orchestra concert at Waiapu Cathedral at 7.30pm on September 3 featuring Hawke’s Bay Orchestra and invited players.

The 50-piece orchestra with wind and percussion will perform a colourful evening of Spanish music by Spanish and nonSpanish composers DeFalla, Ravel, Sarasate& Rimsky-Korsakov. Highly virtuosic at moments, delicate, passionate, this programme will take the audience on a varied journey of Spanish music around the world.

Ahighlight of the concert will be solo violinist Amalia Hall playing pieces by Pablo de Sarasate – Concert Fantasy on Bizet’s

Carmen and Zigeunerwe­isen. Noted by The Strad for her “blazing insight and dazzling virtuosity”, NewZealand­er Amalia Hall celebrates a diverse career as a soloist, as concertmas­ter of Orchestra Wellington and violinist of NZTrio.

Her career extends internatio­nally, havingwont­he first prize at five internatio­nal competitio­ns, plus numerous laureate prizes.

Since her debut with the Auckland Philharmon­ia at age 9, Amalia hasmade numerous solo appearance­s nationally and internatio­nally.

She has performed as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician in Europe, United Kingdom, North and South America, Asia, South Africa and Australia, and recorded for BIS, Bridge, Rattle and Atoll Records.
