Finestkind wins festival award


A Nelson seafood company’s dish of macadamia scallops won the prestigiou­s supreme food and wine match award at the Wine Marlboroug­h Festival on Saturday. Finestkind owner Donna Wells said the dish was teamed with St Clair Vineyard’s Omaka Reserve chardonnay. Ms Wells said the scallop dish, with a macadamia chilli kelp sprinkle, was cooked in macadamia oil. It was served in a bamboo boat on a bed of mesclun. She had entered the event three or four times previously and had placed a close second once, and had set out to win this year. Winning had been fabulous, she said. ‘‘In Blenheim, it’s apparently a very prestigiou­s award.’’ Finestkind is an export seafood company, set up nine years ago. It also sold scallop and oyster pies, fresh oysters and smoked fish at the festival.
