Climbers hit by ice

-

Two Australian climbers have been pulled safely from Aoraki Mt Cook after suffering injuries when they were hit by falling ice overnight. A helicopter flew up to rescue the pair off New Zealand’s tallest peak at first light this morning. Both people were now being treated at Timaru Hospital for minor head and chest injuries. They were hit by the ice about 1am and then both fell about 200 metres, police said. The pair managed to make it back down to the Plateau hut.
