Harwood places sixth
Nelson driver Shane Harwood made it into the top six at the national stockcar championship at Woodford Glen in Kaiapoi last night. Thirty cars qualified for the three-heat final, with Palmerston North’s Peter Rees defending his crown and becoming a five-time New Zealand champion. Harwood had a strong last hit to place sixth overall, while the only other Nelson qualifier, Wayne (Wog) Martin, picked up 10 points in heat one but failed to finish heat two and couldn’t return for the last heat. Second and third overall were Rotorua’s Damien Orr and 18-year-old Palmerston North entrant William Humphreys. Harwood will now switch to his superstock for the New Zealand title meeting, to be held in Nelson next Friday and Saturday.
