Overflowing with winter fashion

- JESS PULLAR

Abundance was the overriding theme of the Winter 2015 fashion show held at Shine Boutique.

The evening saw about 40 Nelsonians celebrate clothing, jewellery and food that Nelson has to offer.

‘‘It was about showing the abundance of everything we have in the city, good food and good fashion; I think sometimes people need reminding of that,’’ said Shine design store owner and event organiser Jo Menary.

The word abundance was not used lightly – fresh fruit and vegetable baskets provided by Fresh Choice Nelson owner Mark A’Court were provided as giveaways to attendees, while clothing from Australian label Elk provided a snapshot of what trends are in for winter.

‘‘There were lots of muted colours; lovely blues and natural tones,’’ said Menary.

Elk clothing, which was modelled by Nelsonians, is stocked in her store for its natural aesthetic in both make and style.

‘‘They have a good way of putting colours together that wouldn’t normally work with each other, but they do because they’re natural colours,’’ she said.

Menary had researched the product and thought the lifestyle brand would be a good fit for Nelson, because it is a lifestyle town, she said.

Nelson jeweller Benjamin Black also showcased his new line of jewellery, which was fashion orientated.

‘‘He’s always made custommade jewellery, and this was still silver with a bit more fashion in [the jewellery]. It was really so beautiful,’’ said Menary.
