Paris trip on offer for Mako Man of Year
The Tasman Makos will have some extra motivation to excel on and off the pitch this season with Mondo Travel partnering with Air France to sponsor the Tasman Mako Man of the Year award.
The award for Mako Man of the Year will recognise the players who put in outstanding efforts across the board and it will be decided by each of the squad members who will vote for the overall winner.
So if winning the ITM Cup wasn’t enough of an incentive next season, one player will receive two return tickets to Paris, flying Air France, in conjunction with Mondo Travel, if they scoop the award.
Mondo Travel chief executive Tony Terrill said he was ‘‘absolutely delighted’’ to be involved with the Tasman Makos for the first time last year and the business wanted to add something extra to their overall sponsorship in the future. ‘‘We saw the Mako Man award as being a great way for Mondo to recognise the players’ commitment to their colleagues, coaches, executive and loyal fan base, both on and off the rugby field,’’ Terrill said.
‘‘Air France is delighted to partner with us in sponsoring this award noting the impact the Makos have had on the wider public in the Nelson and Marlborough regions.’’
Tasman Rugby Union chief executive Tony Lewis said the new sponsorship property builds on the partnership they developed with Mondo Travel last year.
‘‘I have spoken to the players and they are excited that the most prestigious team award is further enhanced with this new sponsorship,’’ Lewis said.
‘‘I am sure a number of the players’ partners will be encouraging their man to try even harder to secure a trip to Paris.’’
