- SAMANTHA GEE

Nelson Provincial Museum has appointed Lucinda BlackleyJimson as its new chief executive.

Blackey-Jimson will move to the region from her current role as the exhibition manager from Auckland’s Museum of Transport And Technology (MOTAT).

She said she was excited about bringing together her love for museums and living in a region which had some of the greatest natural beauty in New Zealand.

‘‘Nelson has a rich heritage and a vibrant cultural expression and I feel honoured to be able to contribute to that,’’ she said. ‘‘I’m passionate about engaging visitors with contemporary stories and heritage, and I also see the Nelson Provincial Museum as an opportunity to make a vital hub of creativity, reflection, and communication in the region.’’

Tasman Bays Heritage Trust chair Olivia Hall said BlackleyJimson was employed by MOTAT to transform a tired exhibition program.

‘‘Lucinda added interactivity to MOTAT, engaging art and science, as well as family appeal,’’ Hall said.

‘‘We are thrilled to have her join us in Nelson and we know she will help take our museum into our next phase of development.’’

Blackley-Jimson’s academic background is in cultural anthro- pology with a Postgraduate Diploma in Library and Information Studies.

She is a qualified project manager with many industry-related qualifications. Before working at MOTAT she was a team leader at the national museum Te Papa.

The public are invited to attend Blackley-Jimson’s powhiri and official welcome at Whakatu Maraeat 9am on November 9. They can also meet her at the Nelson Bays’ Heritage Trust annual general meeting at 3pm on November 11 at the museum. She officially begins in her new role on November 30.
