Summer nights with live music at Tahunanui beach

-

Live music will return to Tahunanui Beach this Friday night, in the first of three evening concerts that will see Nelson bands and musicians perform as part of the Tahuna Summer Sounds.

Nelson City Council community cervices committee chair Gaile Noonan said the events would be a celebration of a classic Kiwi summer. ‘‘All ages are catered for, with live music and fun activities in a beautiful location close to the beach – we are looking forward to three super summertime evenings.’’

Last year the council organised two summer events, Tahuna Rocks and Beach Beats.

This year the two are merged together to make one bigger event with an extra stage to accommodate more local musicians.

This Friday night offers a chance to see teenage climate change activist Xiuhtezcatl Martinez perform his ecoconscious hip hop as part of Earth Guardians. The JackUps, Liam Poole and Outlet also perform on the community stage.

Nelson Fun Park, Pro Karts and Nelson Roller Sports Club will open for the evening festival and a dedicated Youth Zone will showcase the region’s up and coming youth performers.

Sean Richards and Feed will feature on the youth stage in this Friday’s event.

The Tahunanui Community Centre is also attending the event and will provide interactive games and challenges, with over $1200 worth of prizes and vouchers to be given away over the festival.
