Hat-trick continues lucky Lotto run

- SARA MEIJ

Three winning second division Lotto tickets have been sold at a lucky Richmond store.

The Richmond Night & Day store sold three of 11 winning Lotto second division tickets in Wednesday night’s draw, each worth $22,669.

Pak N Save Richmond Nelson also sold a winning second division ticket.

Richmond Night & Day store owner David Smolenski said they had sold a lot of Lotto tickets and had been ‘‘really lucky’’.

‘‘We had one [winning ticket] a couple of weeks ago, then we had one on Saturday and then last night we sold three second div- ision winners.’’

Smolenski said he didn’t know what the recipe for their luck was, but put it down to ‘‘the fact that we really want all of our customers to win’’.

‘‘Over the years we’ve sold 31 first division winners and every time it happens it just makes us feel good and it makes our customers feel good.

‘‘At the moment Powerball is $27 million so we would really love to sell that prize, that would really put the icing on the cake you could say.’’

Smolenski said his store was the luckiest in the South Island.

‘‘But I wouldn’t mind being luckier than that and having some really big wins.’’

He said the community also benefited from the store’s good fortune.

‘‘When people win, it makes them happy. It brings money into their lives and makes things easier.

‘‘And that money can either be shared around or invested into themselves or into the community. So we all benefit in some way, shape or form.’’
