Nelson Mail

Future Nelson Mail: your feedback

-

I like to receive a paper every day but The Mail seems to have become rather thin. Older people prefer to read the paper rather than news online. Much of the online stuff is about celebrities whom we are not always interested in. Please make your paper more newsy. Also persuade The State Theatre to advertise in The Nelson Mail again. Their new style of advertising on line is unsatisfactory.

I value the Nelson Mail for its uncompromising willingness to keep local council politicians accountable, its promotion of local issues and controversies, and the writings of many of its columnists.

Some suggestions: Stay daily as long as possible, flip a lot of the parish pump stuff to the weekly freebies, but expand the international news pages and columns to a consistent three to four pages. Being able to tap into Fairfax’s worldwide resources means you must be consistently able to give us more world news.

I enjoy reading a newspaper, and buy the Nelson Mail three or four times a week. I understand the difficulties and financial constraints of daily publication. Publishing a newspaper three times a week in the future seems like a good idea. I also read news online including Stuff just about every day. A daily email newsletter would suit me very well and I would welcome that and read it. I like the Community Newspapers too. However delivery does seem to be an issue in some areas. I used to get the Nelson Weekly and the The Nelson Leader delivered into my letterbox. But in the past two months or so I have received none. I try to pick them up in the city, but do not always get them.

I think that the Nelson Mail is a well balanced newspaper with some high class reporters and photographers. There is a excellent coverage of local news and the main stories from world news. However I do read most of my world news from other online sources and from the Weekly Guardian newspaper. The Nelson Mail has made a real difference in advocating for certain action and in supporting certain causes. This local campaigning is effective and beneficial. I do hope that this is not lost in any changes. The editorials are always an interesting read - topical, thought provoking and at times hard hitting.

Keep up the good work and please do not lose the impact of a great local newspaper; even if it is not a printed newspaper every day.
