Future Nelson Mail: your feedback

I would probably survive on three issues a week if necessary, providing they cover all the important matters. I amone of those people who cannot put a paper out for recycling until I am sure I have read everything of interest, so three issues might be easier to manage.

Please keep the Arts page and the social concerns articles.

Good and accurate coverage of local, national and international news is vital.

I appreciate the excellent photographs taken by The Mail staff. The paper is often so thin these days that I sometimes wonder if I amgetting value for money, but would not like to be without a newspaper.

Quality journalism is not for free and a newspaper like the NMwith a rather small circulation is hard fetched to finance all the fixed and variable costs to keep it running.

The NMcan try to support ‘startup’ journalism, crowdfund a certain local percentage of its news writing, incorporate internet news in an interactive way, become more attractive to new styles of advertisement, include a greater variety of independent news, cut down to Monday, Wednesday, Friday, weekend issues only. The format can be changed to a smaller size where a certain amount of paper, ink and data, therefore costs can be saved.

Try to keep the quality and the informative side of the NMand work around the other problems and a solution will be found.

The Nelson Mail is a seriously good local newspaper. I enjoy and appreciate almost all of it, though its cartoons never fail to disappoint. But its medium is dying. Change. Deliver different, deeper, longer-shelf-life items twice-weekly Wednesday and Saturday. Drop ‘‘fake-news’’ sensational BS. We got that online a day ago.

We prefer print to digital. Six days a week is optimal although some days the paper is rather slim!

We want to be well informed about world and national news as well as local events including arts, movies and reviews. The health and well-being features are usually of interest.

The puzzles and Munro are a daily highlight. My preferred option would be to have a Nelson edition of the Press printed with the local news replacing the Ch Ch news. This way we could continue to have a daily newspaper.
