Nott your average musician

- SARA MEIJ

The Nott family’s rich musical legacy has continued, with Nelson singer-songwriter Olivia releasing her second solo single yesterday.

Nott is the younger sister of New Zealand musical duo BROODS Georgia and Caleb.

The 21-year-old is launching her second solo single Future Lover under her musical name NIKA, with her first single called Real Fake Love.

‘‘It’s a brand new song that I wrote last year, no one has heard it before,’’ she said.

‘‘It’s just a really special moment when you finally release your art into the world.’’

Nott said she recently moved to Auckland to be closer to studios and producers.

‘‘It’s a massive change for me, I’m not one for big cities.

‘‘Any chance I can get I’ll come to Nelson, I’m a real homebody, I absolutely love Nelson.’’

Nott said the last year had been massive for her in terms of growth.

‘‘Following more of my dreams and making it a reality, for me personally my main focus is to keep writing, exploring what I have and can do.

‘‘I’m pretty much just wanting to further myself and put my stuff out there and see what people think.’’

The Garin College alumni said she was learning a lot along the way.

‘‘I think generally it’s a really good time to be in this industry, there’s ups and downs but at the end of the day there’s no place I would rather be.

‘‘Making my art and doing what I love, it’s just like a dream, I just really appreciate being in the industry.’’

Nott said she had a strong support network with friends and family, including Georgia and Caleb.

‘‘You look up to them regardless if they have a cool job or not.

‘‘It’s like the cherry on top that they do the thing I want to do,’’ she said.

‘‘The support is definitely well and truly appreciated. I couldn’t ask for any better siblings.’’
