Investigation continuing

Sealord says an investigation into the disappearance of a crew member from one of its fishing vessels near Cape Palliser is under way. Otakou crew member Patahi Rewi Hawaikirangi Kawana Jnr, 25, did not report for duty last Thursday morning. The subsequent search was called off on Friday evening after rescue teams failed to find any trace of the Hawke’s Bay man. The disappearance is believed to be the first of its type in Sealord’s history. Sealord spokeswoman Julie North said an internal investigation was ongoing and the company had no further comment. Sealord was maintaining regular contact with the whanau and providing support, she said, and asked that the family’s privacy be respected.
