Tackling abuse

I had a sort of a friend once who became a bit of a boozer and was abusing his then partner. Her three brothers came around one night and whispered in his ear. He told me he never touched her again.

Your item ‘‘He controlled my life" (October 15) helped me recall that admission, and further convinced me that Women’s Refuge needs an anonymous vigilante branch whose members could pay these guys a visit. In most cases, it would solve the problem overnight.
