Port changes

The school holidays are over, and I was wondering how boaties enjoyed the $375,000 faster turnaround at the Akersten St marina (Nelson Mail, August 18).

Just how this narrowing of the marina could possibly speed up launching and retrieving boats certainly is of interest, especially as it was reported that ‘‘prominent’’ boatie Troy Dando had been ‘‘lobbying for it since 2011’’. But given that I assume the same reasoning was applied when the camel toe-like intrusion that forces left-turning traffic into the right turn lane at the Wildman Ave port exit was designed and built, one should not be surprised. Can the engineers who came up with this construction at the Wildman Ave exit tell us how many cycles a week cross there? One? Maybe two? And how much did it cost?
