Last sighting pinpointed

Missing backpacker Grace Millane was last seen at a hotel in Auckland with a man, police say. The 22-year-old, from Essex in Britain, was reported missing on Wednesday after she did not return to a backpackers hostel, where she was staying in central Auckland. Detective Inspector Scott Beard said yesterday afternoon police had gone through hours of CCTV footage and had pinpointed the last known sighting of Millane, at 9.41pm last Saturday at the City Life Hotel. Millane was accompanied by a man in the footage, who had been identified and spoken to, Beard said. Officers had also identified a ‘‘location of interest’’: an apartment at the City Life Hotel, which had been searched. ‘‘At this point we hold grave fears for her safety.’’ David Millane, Grace Millane’s father, arrived in Auckland at 7am yesterday and was met by police at the airport.
