Fury’s dig at Wilder

-

Tyson Fury has urged Deontay Wilder to get their heavyweight rematch sorted quickly, suggesting the American might be getting cold feet.

Fury stunned the division by securing a controversial draw with WBC champion Wilder in Los Angeles last month, climbing off the canvas twice but doing enough with his skills to share the points.

The big Brit is back in training in Spain and looking eager and fit to have another crack at Wilder with negotiations set to resume between the two camps for what will be a hugely lucrative sequel.

‘‘I’m maintaining my fitness, really,’’ Fury told BT Sport.

‘‘I’m [as] fit now as I was then, same kind of thing. I’m ready to fight. Wilder, let’s get the fight made. Don’t s... yourself now mate!’’

A rematch looks certain with the only spoiler to that happening coming in the form of IBF, WBO and WBA champion Anthony Joshua who is still to confirm an opponent for his April booking at London’s massive Wembley Stadium.

A unification fight with Wilder remains the hope of the division and Joshua v Fury would be an allBritish fight that would certainly pack the famous venue.

But either of those options seem unlikely for now with Joshua’s next option looking to be dangerous Londoner Dillian Whyte.

Fury’s promoter Frank Warren has made it clear he believes his fighter, the former holder of three of the division’s belts before his spectacular meltdown, is again the best in the business. Warren says Fury only has eyes for Wilder and Joshua in 2019, probably in that order.

‘‘We want to make the fights that matter and that is what we will do,’’ Warren said.

‘‘Those are the only fights Tyson Fury is interested in after reasserting himself as the world’s best heavyweight. He may not have the belts, but he is top of the charts again now and we are working on his rematch with Wilder.

‘‘After [Wilder] he will want Anthony Joshua. And there is no reason from our side why this shouldn’t become a reality. It is a fight the British public will demand to see before too long.’’
