Black Ferns coach seeks improvement At a glance

-

Black Ferns coach Glenn Moore says his players won’t be resting on their laurels when they face Australia at Eden Park tomorrow.

The Black Ferns again thrashed Australia last weekend in Perth, winning 47-10, the 18th successive win by New Zealand over the Wallaroos.

However, Moore says there’s no danger of the players being over confident.

‘‘We’ve got to prepare well, we go about our business,’’ he said yesterday.

‘‘They [Australia] will improve. I’m sure they will be disappointed with their physicality in that game and I’m sure they’ll want to bring a lot more of that.’’ Black Ferns: Selica Winiata, Renee Wickliffe, Carla Hohepa, Chelsea Alley, Ayesha Leti-l’iga, Rauhei Demant, Kendra Cocksedge, Charmaine McMenamin, Les Elder (c), Pia Tapsell, Charmaine Smith, Eloise Blackwell, Aleisha-Pearl Nelson, Te Kura NgataAerengamate, Toka Natua. Reserves: Luka Connor, Leilani Perese, Olivia WardDuin, Jackie Patea-Fereti, Kennedy Simon/Joanah Ngan-Woo, Arihiana Marina-Tauhinu, Krysten Cottrell, Grace Brooker.

‘‘We’re very focused around the need for a strong performance out there on Saturday,’’ he said. ‘‘It’s in front of a home crowd, a double header with the All Blacks, it’s a big occasion and we want to make sure it’s a good encounter.’’

Moore said his players weren’t motivated by fear of being in the team that finally loses to Australia for the first time since 1994.

Instead, the focus is on self improvement, while competition within the team for starting spots is also a motivating factor.

‘‘We don’t ever talk about stuff like that,’’ Moore said of the streak. ‘‘The talk that we have inside is about the next performance being better than the last one.’’

Moore has made three changes for the test with uncapped Canterbury utility back Grace Brooker, Wellington lock Jackie Patea-Fereti and Bay of Plenty hooker Luka Connor all added to the reserves.
