Sellout musical roaring back into life
For the first time, Nelson Youth Theatre is holding a repeat season of a successful production.
The company’s sellout production of Disney’s The Lion King Jr will return to Nelson’s Theatre Royal from November 18 to 22.
‘‘The enormous amount of work that went into creating the costumes, that are based on those used in the full Broadway version of The Lion King, caused a sensation when we ran the show in July,’’ said director Richard Carruthers. ‘‘I’ve never seen a set of costumes get their own rounds of applause."
This was echoed by Nelson Mail reviewer Jen Amosa on opening night, who wrote: ‘‘I can only describe the opening scene as ‘wow’, and the rest of the audience obviously felt the same way.’’
‘‘We have heard so much feedback from people who missed out on seeing it in July, and those who did see it but would love to see it again, that we decided to run a repeat season so that everyone can experience the magic of this truly spectacular show,’’ said Carruthers.
Almost the entire cast have returned, and have been counting down the days, full of excitement at getting to play their roles again in what reviewer Hugh Neill described as ‘‘a visual feast’’ and ‘‘one of, if not the best Nelson Youth Theatre (production) I have seen so far’’.
The return season of Disney’s The Lion King Jr will run for six performances g at the earlier time of 6pm, with an extra 8pm performance on the last night. Tickets are available from the Theatre Royal or TicketDirect.
