Civic House protest

-

Following the protest by the Nelson arm of the militant eco group Extinction Rebellion, where a member chained herself to the front door of Civic House and attempted to illegally prevent Councillor Tim Skinner’s entry for an important meeting, it comes as no surprise to read of this group’s recent actions in London. They have carried out damage to a number of buildings there, and clearly have shown that they will not hesitate to break the law to get their message across.

One thing is for certain – we don’t want to see these people, with a crazy ‘‘rebellion’’ mindset, being allowed to run amok in Nelson, and most ratepayers will want a strong stance taken by the police if further Extinction Rebellion protests are in the pipeline.

It was not good enough for the police not to charge the woman who chained herself to the council door, as she was breaking the law, and the mayor’s offer to apologise to that protester over a cup of tea can only be described as bizarre. Neville Male
