Dead baby’s family still unidentified
Police say they are no closer to identifying the family of a newborn found dead at an Auckland recycling centre last year. Officers were called to Visy Recycling on August 16, and later confirmed the body had been brought in with a truckload of waste. Yesterday, Detective Inspector Scott Beard confirmed the investigation was ongoing and said police would particularly like to knowthe identity of the mother. ‘‘Police inquiries have included a large focus on DNA, however to date we are no closer to identifying the baby’s parents or other family members,’’ he said. ‘‘Consideration is being given to a burial, however while there is outstanding investigative work, any burial will need to be in consultation with the coroner’s office.’’
