Local Anzac Day events

Several Anzac Day events are scheduled across the Nelson region on Monday to remember those killed in war and honour returned and serving servicemen and women.

Dawn services are planned at Anzac Park in Nelson and the Tākaka Memorial Reserve from 6am, and at the Motueka War Memorial and the Collingwoo­d cenotaph from 6.30am.

A parade is scheduled to start at 5.45am in Nelson, travelling from Millers Acre to Anzac Park for the dawn service.

Later in the morning in Nelson, Last Post and wreath laying ceremonies are planned at Wakapuaka Cemetery from 8am, at the Boer War Memorial in Queens Gardens from 8.30am, and at Marsden Valley Cemetery from 10am.

The RSA commemorat­ion and service is scheduled to begin at 11am on Monday at Christ Church Cathedral.

Other planned events in Tasman District include a parade from Sundial Square in Richmond at 10.45am, followed by a service from 11am at the War Memorial Gardens on Cambridge St.

Other services are scheduled for Riwaka, from 9am at the Memorial Gates, and from 10am at the memorials for both Upper Moutere and Tasman, and the Wakefield Hall.

Laying of wreaths and a service are also scheduled for Ngatimoti, at St James Church from 10.30am.

At Māpua, a parade is planned for 10.45am, followed by a service from 11am at the library.

A service is scheduled to be held at the Lake Rotoiti Community Hall in St Arnaud from 10.30am. Murchison’s service will be at the memorial on Waller St from 11am, or at the recreation centre if wet.

No services are scheduled for Tapawera or Brightwate­r. However, members of the community are welcome to lay wreaths at Tapawera, while members of the Richmond RSA and the community plan to do the same at Brightwate­r.
