Police name stabbing victim

Police have released the name of the man who died in Don St in Invercargill in the early hours of Saturday morning. Hewas 25-year-old Chad Parekura. Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Baird said: ‘‘Chad was living and working in the Southland area, and we extend our deepest sympathies to his family who never expected to be in this terrible position.’’ A second victim, a 22-year-old Invercargill man, remains in the Southland Hospital critical care unit in a stable condition. ‘‘Our inquiries have established that the victims had been socialising in the area during the evening and prior to the assault.’’ Emergency services were called to Don St just before 12.45am on Saturday, to reports two men were injured near the Invercargill District Court building.
