222 new cases in Nelson-Marlboroug­h

Nelson-Marlboroug­h recorded 222 new cases of Covid yesterday, following a decreasing trend in the region over the past few days.

The new cases, along with 287 reported on Saturday bring the total active cases in the region up to 1912, with 23,294 recovered.

So far 11 people in the region have died.

There were 5718 new cases nationally in the Ministry of Health’s update yesterday and a total of 52,397 active cases.

Nelson Marlboroug­h Health (NMH), which has different figures from the ministry because of different reporting times, does not release new numbers over the weekend and will update its figures today.

On Friday NMH reported 293 cases, comprised of 108 in Nelson, 46 in Blenheim, 55 in Richmond, 35 in Motueka/ Moutere, 18 in other areas of Tasman, 13 in other areas of Marlboroug­h, 2 in Golden Bay, 13 in Picton and 3 unknown/ from another region.

Nelson-Marlboroug­h passed its peak case numbers in March and has had a decreasing trend since then, though the long tail has still had an impact on hospital workloads and staff.
