332 new Covid-19 cases in top of south

There are 332 new Covid-19 cases in the top of the south, the Ministry of Health reported yesterday.

Nationally, the ministry announced 9109 new cases of the virus yesterday with 481 people in hospital around the country, including 10 in intensive care units.

Nine people were in hospital in NelsonMarl­borough, a slight rise on the eight hospitalis­ations in the area on Monday.

The number of new cases of the virus in the top of the south was up on the 275 cases recorded by the ministry on Monday.

Yesterday, the ministry also announced a further 20 people had died with Covid-19 around the country over the past eight days. None were from Nelson or Marlboroug­h. Twelve of the deceased were women and eight were men. One was aged in their 50s, three each in their 60s and 70s, eight in their 80s and five were aged over 90.

Nelson Marlboroug­h Health, which uses different reporting times to the ministry, recorded 214 new cases yesterday. They included 69 in Nelson, 35 in Richmond, 24 in Motueka/Moutere, eight in Golden Bay, 14 in other parts of Tasman, 49 in Blenheim, six in Picton and eight in other areas of Marlboroug­h.
