Another death in top of south

Another person has died in the NelsonMarl­borough area with Covid-19, the Ministry of Health said yesterday.

The death is among 20 reported nationally by the ministry yesterday.

Eighteen of the deaths happened during the past five days, with two occurring since April 24.

One of the deceased was aged under 10, one was in their 50s, five in their 60s, two in their 70s, seven in their 80s and four were aged over 90.

Twelve were female and eight were male. Twelve people have now died with Covid19 in Nelson-Marlboroug­h since the Omicron outbreak started in late January.

Yesterday, the ministry reported 323 new cases of the virus in the top of the south, up from the 281 it recorded on Wednesday.

Nationally, there were 8609 new cases of the virus reported by the ministry yesterday, along with 386 people in hospital, including 14 in intensive care units.

Fourteen people were in hospital in Nelson-Marlboroug­h, up on the 11 hospital admissions in the area on Wednesday.

Yesterday, Nelson Marlboroug­h Health, which has different figures because of different reporting times, recorded 336 new cases of Covid-19.

They included 152 in Nelson, 37 in Richmond, 24 in Motueka/Moutere, 7 in Golden Bay, 18 in other areas of Tasman, 63 in Blenheim, 15 in Picton and 17 in other areas of Marlboroug­h.
