High-risk kids can get third jab
Severely immunocompromised Kiwi children aged 5 to 11 can now get a third primary dose of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine. High-risk tamariki can now access a third dose, the Ministry of Health announced. People who are severely immunocompromised are at higher risk of severe outcomes from Covid-19 and might not produce a sufficiently strong immune response after two doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine. A third primary dose – which has been available to adults for some time – offers extra protection and may help reduce the likelihood of transmitting the virus to others, the ministry says. The third primary dose for children is optional.
