Secularists want flag week

-

A secularist group wants to fly a flag over Boston’s City Hall, after the US Supreme Court ruled this week that the city violated the free speech rights of a conservative activist who wanted to fly a Christian flag outside the building. The Satanic Temple has requested permission to raise a flag marking ‘‘Satanic Appreciation Week’’ from July 23-29. It wants to showthat religious liberty must mean respect for all forms of religious practice and opinion. Founded in 2013, the Satanic Temple doesn’t believe in Satan, describing itself as a ‘‘non-theistic religious organisation’’ that advocates for secularism. It has lodged freedom of religion challenges nationwide.
