Cardinal, 90, detained

-

Hong Kong’s national security police have arrested 90-year-old Cardinal Joseph Zen, the most outspoken senior Catholic cleric in Hong Kong and the city’s bishop emeritus, along with at least three others, according to lawyers involved in the case. The arrests could signal a newwave of detentions under a national security law since John Lee was elected Hong Kong’s new chief executive. Zen, renowned lawyer Margaret Ng and academic Hui Po-keung were arrested for allegedly colluding with foreign forces by acting as trustees for a fund that provided financial assistance to those arrested in the city’s 2019 pro-democracy protests.
