Cop’s top-level surprise

-

A Connecticut state trooper who is originally from Poland got quite a surprise while responding to an SUV with a flat tyre yesterday – a passenger in the vehicle happened to be former Polish president Lech Walesa. Lukasz Lipert arrived to the callout and was greeted by Walesa, who had spoken in Hartford as part of a US tour advocating for aid for refugees who have fled Ukraine during the war with Russia. Walesa, 78, led the nationwide Solidarity movement in Poland in the 1980s that eventually toppled the country’s communist leaders. ‘‘It was definitely a great experience,’’ said Lipert, 35, who came to the US when he was 18.
