Nazi gold hunters claim success

Treasure hunters seeking a hoard of Nazi gold buried in the grounds of a Polish palace used as an SS brothel during World War II say they are almost certain that they have found part of the trove. Tomasz Gorski, a member of the Silesian Bridge Foundation, said the object had been pinpointed with ground-penetrating radar near the 18th-century palace of Minkowskie, about 50km east of Wroclaw, the former German city of Breslau. The foundation nowneeds to wait for permission from Polish authorities to excavate the object, reported to be lying at a depth of 3m, amid fears that the SS may have booby-trapped it. The foundation is seeking gold that was taken from the Nazi central bank in Breslau and hidden on the orders of SS leader Heinrich Himmler in the final months of the war.
