Air service extended
A subsidised air service between Nelson and Blenheim will run for the full seven-week closure of State Highway 6, Originair says. The company announced the service last week on a two-week trial basis from November 1 when the highway closure takes effect, with seats costing a standard $89, or $99 for a flexi fare.

Grundy said the twice-daily service would cover the full closure period, thanks to support from the mayoral relief fund, both airport companies and Nelson and Wairau hospitals. Added to the public seat reservations last week it had given the airline the confidence to take the additional step. Flights depart Nelson, Monday to Friday at 7.40am and 4pm and from Blenheim at 8.40am and 5pm.
