Pensioner drove 200km to bomb migrant centre

-

A motorist who firebombed a migrant centre before killing himself was a pensioner who had driven nearly 200 kilometres and may have carried out a ‘‘recce’’ before launching his attack. Police were searching the home of the 66-year-old man, who has not been named, in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, after he threw three petrol bombs at the centre in Dover. Officers were called to the Western Jet Foil processing centre, where migrants arriving in small boats are taken, at 11.22am on Sunday, local time. Two people suffered minor injuries in the attack. About 700 people being held there were subsequently moved to the already overcrowded Manston centre. Witnesses said the suspect was ‘‘laughing’’ as he threw what police described as ‘‘incendiary devices’’. He was photographed throwing a petrol canister with a firework taped to it from the window of his white Seat Tarraco. The man later killed himself at a nearby petrol station.
