One-game ban for JWH

Jared Waerea-Hargreaves’ hopes of playing for New Zealand again at the Rugby League World Cup have taken a hit after he was handed a onegame suspension. The veteran Kiwis forward was only 13 minutes into a return from a threegame ban picked up in the NRL season when he collared Ireland forward Dan Norman with a high shot in their final group game. After the game Ireland head coach Ged Corcoran described the hit as a ‘‘dog shot’’ and urged World Cup officials to sanction the Kiwis prop. Waerea-Hargreaves has decided not to contest the charge and will sit out the Kiwis’ quarterfinal against Fiji on Sunday.
