Well-written but letter left out
Joel Maxwell (October 31) had a very interesting article about our name New Zealand derived from the name Zeeland, being a province at sea level in the Netherlands.
It is associated with Abel Tasman and his visit to Golden Bay in 1642. Joel writes having trouble with his spelling. He did well in the article but spelling the name in Dutch for the Dutch anthem he left out the letter ‘‘u’’, as it is Zeeuws volkslied.
The name New Zealand has made us world famous in trade, and the sacrifice of lives in World War I and II to protect freedom.
